alexa chung for madewell

i bought the iris blouse and skinny jeans today at madewell. i'm still iffy on the blouse. the fit is very roomy except in the shoulders, and the silk wrinkles easily. the jeans fit surprisingly well, although i'm not completely comfortable wearing something with such a high waist. will post photos tomorrow to give you a sense of how they fit.

edit::
i'm wearing the small. i think i'm going to return it because of the wrinkling. the jeans don't look as high-waisted as they feel. i'm a bit ambivalent about both pieces.

what color blouse did you get? i got today also, in brown. the material isn't fantastic, but i think that it will get a lot of wear. it will pair great with sweaters when it gets colder.

looking forward to seeing how everything fits!

ooh - i got the skinny jeans today too when i stopped by the soho store. and the sheer polka dot blouse. the silk polka dot tea dresses were very tempting, but i wasn't so much a fan of the elastic waist...

all in all i think madewell/jcrew did a lovely job on the collaboration collection.

i got the blouse in the pale peach. i agree, for the price, the fabric should have been nicer. it was about $30 more than i wanted to spend. it'll be an easy layering piece, though.

i really like the fit of the tees, but am not such a fan of prints, in general.

definitely a nicer collaboration than i'm used to seeing.

the jeans look soooo awesome! high waists are such game changers as the tuck-ness is perfect for items that are off season/trend, like peasant tops...

i think the jeans look great on you!

How did you find the sizing to run for the jeans?

i'm usually a 27 (or 26 in jbrand), and they run true to size. my natural waist is around 27 right now, and that's right where the jeans hit at the top.

Thanks! I concur that they look amazing on you.

You look so good in those jeans, and I really like them tucked in on you - you have a petite curviness (which is perfect). It's a lovely top too, and the colour is great but I know what you mean about wrinkling (unless it is supposed to?). I hardly drag out the iron as it is: it's certainly reserved for 'have to' rather than 'want to'.

You look *amazing* in those jeans. The high waist works well on you (and doesn't look too high-waisty, if you know what i mean).

I love the jeans, I think you should keep those! The shirt is cute, but I can tell what you mean about the material from the photos, it just looks a little wrinkly - which is too bad because it's a really nice cut! :)

I think the jeans look great on you, definitely keep them. If the wrinkling of the shirt is going to annoy you every time you wear it, take it back for sure. Though the colour is nice.

*Side question: Is the polka dot dress in navy (Betty Tea Dress) still available in store? Its sold out online.

Don't know whether to try to chase one up somehow in store, seeings I'm not from the country!

i saw the polka dot dress in navy at the newbury street madewell in boston. you should try chasing it down if you love it!

i like the jeans a lot, i think that a higher waist is very flattering. the blouse seems to me like something you could find without much trouble at a thrift store. i say keep the jeans, return the blouse.

thanks erica! did you have a good look at it? was the silk wrinkly like the shirt one?

oh i'm excited now!!

erica said...

the silk was more satiny than matte like the blouse. i didn't check to see if it was wrinkly. it was a bit light-weight, hard to say how it would perform. good luck with your search, dee!

thank you!

I think they both look great! I feel like my silk tops are always a bit wrinkly. I just go with it. Nice and warm for winter. Emily doesn't get silk because it's to hard to clean.

The jeans looks great on you! I know what you mean about the high-waist though. My first few times wearing such a high waist made me feel like I was announcing: "hello, here is my ass, well defined for all to see".

Also, really good to know about that blouse so I can stop pining for it. I absolutely hate fabric that wrinkles easily.

erica, the jeans look fab on you! funny, i bought the same jeans this week! they have that soft, worn-in feel that i just love in denim. the high-waist gives me a sense of security--everything sucked in, nothing sticking out the back, perfect for playground fun w my kids.

i tried on the shirt too but silk & my babies...it just didn't seem practical. :) i do love the billowy shirt look tho...

happy wkend!
