what i wore (houston shopping)

new steven alan reverse seam plaid shirt from www.rarechic.com ($48)

shopping in houston.
houston galleria has the usual suspects. neiman marcus. saks. nordstrom. j crew. kate spade. barneys coop. tiffany. cartier. bulgari. aveda. urban outfitters.
westheimer is a major shopping street with its infinite number of strip malls, 1920s low rise commercial blocks and shops in converted houses. the only shop there worth my money is raye, on dunlavy / westheimer. it reminds me of creatures of comfort mixed with impulse. lots of mociun, clu, grey ant, ulla johnson, lyell, rachel comey, borne and steven alan. i bought a grey ant top there, along with two lovely lorena barrezueta ceramic pieces.

Leap, 2314 Bissonet St., is the other promising shop in houston. half their selection is for older women, but they also carry orla kiely, virginia johnson, and lyell. houston must really love lyell (no mayle?). i bought this silk twill button dress, 60% off. i'm still debating whether or not to sell it on ebay and recoup my losses. it's a size 2 but fits like a 4/6. is it too dark (navy) to wear to a downtown LA wedding? maybe.

i also bought a super cheap liberty fabric short sleeve button down ($15!) and ivory corduroy pleated shorts at j crew. oh, and some cole haan driving loafers. there's something about houston that made me feel like i ought to have gone to a prep school.

for graphic novels, art books, and kid robot toys, domy on westheimer is a good place to waste an hour or two.

my lena corwin pillow arrived the day before i left, along with the port2port press/camilla engman prints. i'll have to do a photo shoot next week. for now, i'm just happy to be back in cambridge. oh, and lena's travel plates have been restocked, along with a new style!
